Don't Wait Until Pre Season To Work On Your Rugby Speed

The off-season is one of the best opportunities for young rugby players to focus on developing their speed.

During the season, their bodies are constantly dealing with team training, games, contact and fatigue.

The off season gives players an opportunity to train while their bodies are fresher from the demands of weekly games and footy training and focus specifically on improving the physical qualities that can make them faster.

Instead of waiting until pre season and trying to improve everything at once, the off season Rugby Speed Academy gives your child dedicated time to work on:

Acceleration technique with & without the footy
Explosiveness
First step speed
Change of direction
Reaction & agility

Mobility
Rugby specific movement

So when pre season arrives, they can return with better movement, improved technique and a stronger speed foundation.

MORE THAN JUST A WEEKLY SPEED SESSION

Training doesn't stop when the 90 minute session finishes.

Every player will receive weekly at home training and ongoing support through our private WhatsApp group, helping them continue working on what they've learned throughout the week. Players can also send through training videos for technique feedback and corrections, helping them practise correctly and get the most out of their training throughout the 5 weeks.

WHAT WILL YOUR CHILD WORK ON?

Acceleration Technique

Learn the correct body position, arm action, knee drive and foot contact needed to accelerate efficiently.

First-Step Explosiveness

Develop the ability to produce force into the ground and explode into the first few steps.

Change of Direction

Learn how to decelerate, control the body, change direction and accelerate away efficiently.

Reaction & Agility

Players won't just run around cones. They'll work on reacting to different cues and making quick movements that transfer to unpredictable situations on the rugby field.

Rugby Specific Speed

Training is designed specifically around the movement demands of Rugby League and Rugby Union.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

5 x 90 Minute Face to Face Coaching Sessions

One structured coaching session every Tuesday for 5 weeks.

Pre & Post Speed Testing

Players will complete testing at the beginning and end of the academy so we can track their progress over the six weeks.

Individual Acceleration Technique Assessment

Every player will have their acceleration technique assessed so we can identify areas that may be limiting their speed.

Weekly At-Home Training

Players will receive simple homework each week to reinforce what we've covered at the academy.

This means they're not relying on just 90 minutes of training per week to improve.

Private WhatsApp Coaching Group

Parents and players will have access to a private Rugby Speed Academy WhatsApp group throughout the 5 weeks.

I'll share weekly training, coaching cues, drill demonstrations and additional support to help players stay on track between sessions

Video Technique Feedback

Players will have the opportunity to submit training footage so I can provide additional coaching feedback between sessions.

End of Academy Progress Feedback

At the end of the six weeks, you'll have a better understanding of your child's progress and what they should continue working on moving forward.

SMALL GROUP. MORE COACHING.

ONLY 15 PLAYERS

The academy is deliberately limited to a maximum of 15 players so I can coach each player throughout the six weeks, identify individual technique issues and provide feedback.

Once all 15 positions are filled, registrations for this intake will close.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What ages is the Rugby Speed Academy for?

Rugby League and Rugby Union players aged 9-14 years.

Does my child need to be an experienced or representative player?

No. The Academy is suitable for players of different ability levels.

Whether your child plays club, school or representative rugby, the focus is on helping them improve their individual acceleration technique, explosiveness, agility, reaction and change of direction.

Where is the Rugby Speed Academy held?

The Academy will be held in Nerang.

Full venue details will be provided to registered players.

When does the Academy start?

The first session will be held on Tuesday 13th October, with sessions running from 4:00pm - 5:30pm.

How long is each training session?

Each face-to-face session runs for 90 minutes.

The Academy isn't just about the face-to-face sessions, though. Players will also receive at-home training and ongoing coaching support between sessions.

Is there training to complete between sessions?

Yes.

Players will receive weekly at-home training to reinforce what they've learned during their face-to-face coaching.

The homework will be kept simple and achievable so players can continue developing throughout the week without needing to complete another full 90 minute session.

How does the WhatsApp support work?

Parents will have access to a private Rugby Speed Academy WhatsApp group throughout the program.

I'll use the group to provide weekly homework, drill demonstrations, coaching cues and additional support.

Players can also send through training footage where appropriate so I can provide technique feedback between sessions.

Will my child's speed be tested?

Yes.

Players will complete testing at the beginning and end of the Academy so we can track their development and compare their results.

This also helps identify areas we need to focus on during the program.

What happens if my child misses a session?

If your child does miss a session, they'll still receive the week's at home training and have access to the WhatsApp coaching support to help them stay on track.

Can I pay week by week?

No. Places are booked for the complete Academy rather than individual sessions.

However, you have two payment options:

Pay upfront when registering, or use Afterpay to spread the cost into instalments.

Why are there only 15 places available?

I've deliberately limited the Academy to a maximum of 15 players.

Speed development requires coaching and feedback. Keeping the group small allows me to spend more time working with individual players, correcting technique and identifying areas they need to improve.

What should my child bring?

Exactly what they would bring to club training

  • Training clothes

  • Footy boots

  • Running shoes if requested

  • Water bottle

  • Any required medication

Further information will be sent to parents before the first session.

What happens after I register?

Once your child's registration is confirmed, you'll receive further information about the Academy, including venue details, what to bring and how to join the private WhatsApp group.

Then we'll see you at the first session ready to start building their speed for the upcoming season.

What if I have another question?

If you're unsure whether the Rugby Speed Academy is right for your child, please get in touch with The Rugby Speed Coach before registering and I'll be happy to answer any questions.
