There is a common misconception amongst players that the stronger you are, the slower you will be. Being heavy keeps you slow, right?
This cannot be further from the truth. Strength is absolutely critical to speed. The more strength - or force - that you can place into the ground, the further your body will propel forward. If you don't have strength, your strides will be weak and short, and you will struggle to explode off the mark. If you want to improve your strength for speed, then you need to be doing the below exercises. Start off with your own body weight and add weight when you start to find it too easy. 1.
